CAREER EXPERIENCE SHARING EVENING OCTOBER 2009
On Saturday 3rd October, Chung Ling Alumni UK put together an inspiring programme with presentations covering various career paths and advice on getting up that ladder. Many thanks go out to those who contributed to this successful event. The evening commenced with the moving sound of the Chung Ling School anthem, which has not been sung in the UK for a very long time. Hearts were full of nostalgia and pride, and mouths were filled with moon cake, thanks to Ang Kok Guan who generously brought boxes of it to coincide with the mid-autumn festival.

Introductions were made and from the start it was evident that Chung Ling has produced a number of high achievers as we were introduced to an array of Masters and Phd degree holders. Lee Wooi Keat, the first to present, gave an informative presentation on the importance of the 'killer' CV and interviewing technique. This was followed by Adeline Goh's equally informative and useful seminar on work permits, employment and the housing market. Shien Shin shared his wealth of scientific work experience and gave a talk about the Hedge Fund. Steven Goh, our final speaker, opened our eyes to the benefits of graduate training schemes that would be of interest to the attending graduate students.
Particular thanks to Adeline Goh and Lee Wooi Keat for organising the programme. It was a great opportunity to share experiences. The concluding message was that the key to achieving employment is preparation and perseverance.

SPRING 2009 MEET/ AGM
On Saturday 23rd May 2009, the UK Alumni members and co met at our favourite Holiday Villa. The turnout was on a somewhat smaller scale due to the peak of the exam season for the younger members and business commitments for the senior members. Prior to the once again sumptuous buffet, an annual general meeting was held. Foremost on the agenda was the re-election of the UK Alumni committee. The newly elected members are as follows: Lee Phong Thuan (1968) reprises his position as Chairman, Adeline Goh (1995) now holds the position of Secretary, Lee Wooi Keat (1995) is our new Treasurer, the other General Members include James Sum (1961), Lee Ewe Hoe (1970), Ang Kok Guan (1970) and Shien Tham (1995). The other topic on the agenda was the feasibility of organising the Chung Ling Alumni World Carnival here in the UK. After some deliberation, the decision was deferred to the newly elected committee, who will also schedule future UK events. It was agreed that we would encourage as many of our members to join in the Shanghai Carnival, which is expected to be a spectacular event. Thanks to the efforts of the current committee, the UK Alumni now boasts over 150 members, a majority being young Alumni. We have thus fulfilled one of our lifelong objectives of encouraging the younger generation to play an active role in the Chung Ling community. This is the best way to ensure the continuity and success of the Chung Ling Alumni movement.
We would now like to take the opportunity to congratulate Dato' Low Keng-Kok and his committee of the Central Malaysian Chung Ling Alumni Association, for attaining ISO status. This is an example of the kind of forward thinking that other associations could draw inspiration from.

MARCH- DIM SUM MEET
This year's UK Dim Sum meet took place on 14th March on a beautiful, sunny Saturday afternoon. The atmosphere for this particular get together was similarly sunny with the multitude of young and old alumni (the young now outnumbering the old) and the gathering of members from all three Chung Ling schools. Members came from all over the UK, from Bournemouth to Birmingham, Bath to Cambridge, a true acknowledgement of the unity that Chung Ling brings. The boisterous chatter, gossip and laughter was reminiscent of our old school canteen, except those smartly attired school students are now fully fledged professionals in various fields. Ideas ranging from football events and European trips flowed and there were excited discussions of the possiblility of organising a world alumni carnival. In true Malaysian fashion, we cannot go without mentioning the food. The food was, as always, upto our high standards. Afterwards, reluctant to part so soon, we adjourned to the local Costa coffee house for further chit chat. There are now plans for another gathering in May. I'm sure that the turn out will be even better with the arrival of summer.

CHINESE NEW YEAR DINNER 2009
This year's Chinese New Year Dinner took place on 7th February at 6.30pm at the Pavillion Holiday Villa. Due to the busy festive season we were disappointed with the poor turn out for this event. Nevertheless, those who did turn up had a good time all the same. The long distances didn't deter some alumni from attending, a reflection of true Chung Ling spirit. We were treated to traditional Chinese New Year Steam Boat, as well as Yi Sang and Malaysian desserts such as Ice Kachang. During the course of the evening, lots and lots of Teh Tahrik and Coffee Tahrik were consumed fuelling even more animated chatter than usual.

UK ALUMNI MEETING NOVEMBER 2008
Saturday 29th November seemed like another cold winter's day, but London was woken once again with the arrival of a group of lively Malaysians. The UK Chung Ling Alumni arrived at the Holiday Villa for a much anticipated get together. Members attending included Cheng Yu Lee (1959), James Sum (1961), Ewe Khay Huat (1966), Por Thean Chye (1967), Cheah Sin Bin (1967), Marvin Chang (1970), Miss Adeline Goh (1995), Lee Phong Thuan (1968) and Mrs. Lee Ewe See. Happy memories, reunions and laughter were washed down with delicious Malaysian cuisine and Teh Tarik. Por Thean Chye was pleased to meet up with Cheah Sin Bin, reunited after more than twenty years. Two new members, Cheah Sin Bin and Adeline Goh, our first lady member in the UK, were warmly welcomed and it was unanimous that another event like this should happen soon. A dinner to celebrate Chinese New Year around the end of January/early February is currently being organised. Members will be notified once a date and venue is fixed. Please support the upcoming events and we hope to continue to welcome more members to the UK alumni. Until then have a very merry Christmas and a happy new year!

MEETING THE 12TH CLHS PRINCIPAL
On 15 June 2008, several UK Chung Ling alumni had the opportunity to meet the 12th Principal of CLHS Penang, Mr. Sim Jin Tang, at a buffet luncheon hosted by Phong Thuan Lee and Sin Bin Cheah (1967 graduate). Mr. Sim, who happens to be Lee’s classmate, is from the batch of 1968 graduates. He retired in 2006 and is now working for CL Global Networks Pte Ltd, which is managing a CL alumni database at www.clglobal.net.my. The other UK alumni present at the lunch were: Lim Keong Teoh (1984), Chean Ming Tan (2002) and Justin Goh (2004). Another 1968 alumni, Yau Cheng Chuah from Malaysia, who happened to be in London, also attended the lunch with his wife. The lunch was held at Bugis Street Brasserie at the Milennium Hotel.

UK ALUMNI MEETING APRIL 2008
The first UK alumni gathering of this year was held at the Pavillion Holiday Villa on Saturday 12th April. A venue for previous UK alumni get-togethers, the Villa provided a buffet dinner that boasted traditional Malaysian cuisine. With the successful out come of this event, Alumni organisers hope to encourage more frequent meets to continue the strong bonds of friendship and solidarity unique to Chung Ling's heritage.
