41ST CHUNG LING WORLDWIDE ALUMNI CARNIVAL 2009
On the 21st and 22nd November 2009, a carnival like no other stormed Shanghai's Lu Fa restaurant. This was the 41st World Chung Ling Alumni Carnival, attended by almost 600 alumni and their friends and family. Attendees enjoyed a tour of this beautiful modern city and a tour of the water village, Zhujiajiao. Sights of towering skyscrapers in the busy city were followed, in contrast, with the simple, but equally remarkable architecture of this water village.

The Eastern China Chung Ling Alumni Liaison Centre put up a very good show. Eyes widened with the belly dancing performance and eyes widened further by the amazing feats of the acrobat troupe. Our ears were also pleasantly serenaded by beautiful musical performances, one such performer looked very much like Vanessa Mae. All the while, we were served with exquisite Shanghai cuisine.

Attending and enjoying the event were the representatives from Chung Ling UK. The representatives this year were Lee Phong Thuan, Mark Lee and Joseph Chang.
The food, entertainment and the city itself have impressed us with a wonderful blend of the traditional with the contemporary. We would like to congratulate the Eastern China Chung Ling Alumni Liaison Centre for taking up the challenge of organising this international event. It was a job very well done. Every year the standard is raised, we look forward to the treats in store next year.

The 40th Anniversary Celebration for the the class of 1966/68 took place on Saturday 20 December and Sunday 21 December in Penang. On Saturday afternoon, the spirited ex-classmates were given a guided tour of the old school, followed by group photo sessions. A buffet dinner was served in the school canteen on that evening, livened up with happy recounts of the old days. For entertainment, there was a medical talk and a karaoke singing contest. The standard was high, potential Malaysian Idol winners amongst them. The winner of this particular prestigious contest was Lee Boon Hoe, our congratulations to him.
In his speech Lee Phong Thuan thanked the committee and the chairman of the committee, Dato' Sri Cheah Eu Kiat, for organising continuously for 40 years. Also pictured is Chow Chuan Juan who echoed Lee's sentiments and urged classmates to warmly support future events.
A heritage tour of Penang was organised for the participants on Sunday morning. We visited the Nor Nya Museum, Teochew Association and Khoo Kongsi. The grand dinner took place at City Bayview Hotel in the evening. It was attended by well over 250 people. Among the guests were teachers from our day. It was a good chance to meet up and reacquaint with them after all these years. Mary, a former English teacher, drew the biggest cheers from the class. The entertainment was provided by the Astro singers and musical performance by two classmates.

90TH ANNIVERSARY OF CHUNG LING HIGH SCHOOL
Ninety years since the founding of Chung Ling High School, two days brought together Alumni members from all over the world. The opening ceremony, held at the school, captured memories of Chung Ling's long eventful history, beautifully portrayed through a dramatic play. Moving accounts of the years during the Second World War and of the students who fought were honoured in a video documentary. This opening ceremony recounted to students old and new of the importance of hard work and loyalty to the school.

The afternoon of the first day displayed the solidarity of all the old students with a march procession round the school. Each member carried a colourful balloon that was released after the speeches. Dance and music performances by the current students marked the end of the first day's celebrations.

38TH WORLD-WIDE CHUNG LING ALUMNI CARNIVAL MELBOURNE, DECEMBER 2006
FOREWORD
It gives me great pleasure on behalf of the UK alumni to give my enthusiastic and wholehearted support to the Melbourne Carnival 2006 of the World-wide Chung Ling Alumni.
The organising committee must be congratulated on undertaking yet again this important event in Melbourne and for taking on the arduous and time-consuming responsibility this involves. The success of the Carnival will be measured by the support from the alumni but this success cannot be achieved without the hard work that has gone into its organisation by the local alumni.
The Carnival gives us a very special occasion to renew and strengthen ties of friendship, as well as to present an opportunity for alumni from all parts of the world to gather together once a year and make new friends, especially from the new generations of alumni. The Carnival also provides a forum for the exchange of information and ideas among the alumni which hopefully may be of benefit to all.
On such an occasion we are able to honour the school in what it has done for us and previous generations. It helps to ensure the continuity of the Chung Ling spirit and our work for the years to come.
We should not need to remind ourselves that the most significant purpose of the alumni organisation is to support the development of the school and promote the spirit and traditions of Chung Ling. It is crucial that the variety of viewpoints of the many members of the alumni organisation are heard, but most important is the need for the forward development of the organisation to be on a united front. Chung Ling is bigger than any individual and greater than the sum of its parts.
I hope that all of the alumni will give their support to the Carnival and that as many as possible will have the opportunity of visiting it and participating in this event.
Lee Phong Thuan,
Chairman Chung Ling Alumni UK
